I got Robbed at the Buffet!!
Ever feel like you just aren’t getting your “money’s worth” when you eat a buffet? The price of most buffets has gone through the roof, so you just feel you have to eat more to justify it. Well, it isn’t money better spent if you overeat. Last night, hubby wanted to go to our fav chinese buffet place. I said that was fine. We had a very pleasant dinner, and I had a bowl of egg drop soup, and one very small plate of beef and broccoli (can’t spell it!! :P). I left feeling content, but not full. We took our time, and just enjoyed the quiet and conversation.
Today, though, I walked out of the house without eating breakfast. I need to get groceries and there was just nothing really to eat. Ok, that is a lie because I could have had a bowl of cereal, or even toast. No good excuse other than I didn’t feel like taking the time and I wasn’t really hungry then. Now I’m at my desk and feel like chewing off my arm. Really bad move, Beebers. Now I need to figure out how to stay SANE when I go to lunch ravvished! Not a good place to be. That is when bad food decisions happen. I KNOW this!! Going to make sure I get my grocery shopping done pronto after work today!
Well, I have work to get done. You all have a great day, and wonderful weekend! Take care, gang. Remember to stay sane on your choices!! ![]()
Luckily buffets are rare here in the UK, so you don’t see people loading up their plates in the same way. The only buffet type things I ever see is the salad bar at some chain restaurants.
I don’t think buffets are a great idea when you are on a diet, especially if people get up more than once, because you are probably a lot more than you need.
Maybe you can find another favourite restaurant where you can order off the menu where you only order what you want. It might save money and your waistline.
Keep a few emergency rations at work for when you are hungry, but I’d advise you not to skip breakfast if at all possible. Fruit or a yoghurt can be a really good start to the day for people in a hurry.
I meant to say before my comment suddenly got entered (by itself?) - Well done for eating properly at the buffet. I know it must be hard with all that temptation but handled it perfectly.
I totally agree on keeping snacks on hand at work. I keep small packs of trail mix handy. I also take plain tortilla chips as well. If you have a fridge handy I’d definitely take some yogurt. It’s a quick pick me up.
As for breakfast never skip it. I’ve found that my energy level is at it’s best if I have two egg whites fried in a non stick pan with low fat spray and a medium banana.
Good luck!
Lol, I haven’t gone to a buffet since I started here at BS… except my one “cheating at the buffet” blog. They sell by the pound, so I went in, got one bite of all my faves, let my daughter get what she wanted, got a dish for my bf, stacked them up, paid and left… may have been around the same price… but I KNOW that I would binge AT the buffet… this way I got a taste of everything and NO SECONDS!
Congrats on YOUR ability to go and eat moderatly! Way to go.

My hubby always said that I am a waste of money at a buffet cause i don’t over indulge. They are dangerous places. It is interesting. American is the most obese place. The serving sizes are out of control YET when we are served less we think we are getting ripped off. LOL..its a terrible vicious circle isn’t it. I am proud. You did so good girl!
Well done Beebs! The last time I went for chinese at lunch, I told myself ONE helping of the chicken and veggies. I failed miserably. LOL
Okay, so you will be ravished at lunch. Do your homework NOW. If you have to get something at a fast food, research it on calorieking.com. If you brought your lunch, just eat it real slowwwww and chew slowwwwww and you will feel fuller.
Fast food healthy pics I would suggest would be Braums chicken salad or Subway turkey on wheat no cheese, mustard and loaded with veggies. They even have a bag of sliced apples to go with instead of chips. 325 calories total.
Hope that helps and next time my friend, eat SOMETHING for breakfast *shakes finger at Beebs* hehe…
Huggggggggggggs,
Shan
Great job BeeBee; that is self control at it’s greatest.
Can you jump in your car and go grab a snack real quick? I hope you make it to lunch too.
I stopped going to buffets unless it’s at the Indian casinos. There for $30.00 a person we have all you can eat shrimp, lobster, beef….really good food. Because my mom loves to gamble they usual comp us but as always my mom triples the amount back with what she loses.
Have a great day!

I try to keep a Fiber One bar in my purse or at my desk…peanut butter is yummy! Ive also been keeping Ensure in the fridge, Ive missed quite a few meals due to stress but can usually drink one of them and it seems to hold me.
Congrats on staying in control at the buffet…love me some egg drop soup…mmm mmm.
No skipping breakfast…ever! It’s very bad for you. We have to eat to get our metabolism burning for the day. If you eat a light breakfast, that gets it started and you’ll burn more calories than you throughout the day then you otherwise would have.
Congrats on eating good at the buffet last night! I know that is so hard to do!!

I love your self control at the buffet, I have had to stay away from those. Now NO MORE skipping breakfast ok? I keep oatmeal at work and fix it there.

Thats amazing that you were able to control yourself at the buffet. I don’t have that kind of willpower and this is the reason (other than cost) that I don’t go to buffets more than once a year (twice at most!) But yeah if you skip breakfast you’ll be ravenous, be sure to eat something in the morning!
